For the 2022 model year, the Toyota Tacoma isn’t undergoing any major changes as a whole. However, the brand has introduced a new special trim level called the Trail Edition, and the always popular TRD Pro Series version of the midsize pickup truck is getting a makeover as well. Today we thought we’d focus on the latter, highlighting what’s new for the upcoming model year in the 2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.

New Mechanical Features

Aesthetical changes are great, and we’ll certainly get to those, but when you’re talking about a true off-road pickup truck like the Tacoma TRD Pro, then the mechanical side of things is always more exciting. A few new features have been added in that regard for the 2022 model year, most notably a taller suspension lift in the front and the rear. The new pickup will implement a set of Fox internal bypass shocks tuned by Toyota Racing Development and lifted 1.5” in the front a 0.5” in the rear.

To complement this, TRD engineered a new set of upper control arms constructed from machine-forged aluminum. These changes together mean the vehicle will have improved clearance on the trail. In addition, a new set of black TRD wheels wrapped in Goodyear Territory all-terrain tires enhance both the mechanical and design side of things.

New Design Cues

As for updates specifically to the truck’s aesthetic design, you’ll be able to opt for new hood graphics that enhance the truck’s black hood scoop and new TRD Pro badges in various locations. The truck features color-keyed accents throughout the exterior, including areas like the rear bumper, the door handles and the exterior mirrors. As always, the TRD Pro Series vehicles are offered in an exclusive annual color, and this year that option is Electric Lime Metallic.
