New Toyota Tundra Review The Power of Turbos and iForce Max Hybrids

If you think your light duty truck should work hard, the new Toyota Tundra and new Tundra iForce Max Hybrid can promise better tow ratings, payload capacity, and overall strength.

But what about their ability to handle the trail or their willingness to spoil their owners? In this new Tundra review, we’ll look at how these big rigs are changing for 2026 and beyond.

Performance

New Toyota Tundras no longer need a V8. That’s because Toyota has harnessed the power of a twin-turbo V6. This incredible engine performs better than many V8s, but it isn’t as thirsty. This 389-horsepower engine really delivers with 479 lb-ft of torque.

A twin-turbo V6 is just the first part of the iForce Max Hybrid powertrain. The dynamic engine has an electric motor generator that can increase output to 437 horsepower and 583 lb ft.

How does the 2026 Toyota Tundra iForce Max work? The 10-speed automatic transmission is a hub not only for gear changes but for extra power. The motor generator has been connected directly to the transmission to provide that electric kick.

More capable than many other hybrid electric vehicles, the truck will favor the electric motor at speeds under 18 mph. Toyota has ensured that it has enough electric energy to do this over and over throughout the day. With hybrid components and a powerful battery pack, this hybrid electric truck basically recycles energy and doesn’t need to be plugged in.

When speed is needed, this set-up helps the truck be faster in competitive driving situations and be stronger when pulling a load. With its electric assist, the engine can deliver instantaneous torque.

Utility

With a more powerful engine, a stronger build, and a better bed, its no wonder that the new Tundra truck has tow ratings that have gone up by 17.6 percent. Its payload ratings have gone up by 11 percent. In the world of hauling, those higher numbers indicate both greater strength and more durability.

Available as 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, or 8.1-foot boxes, beds are covered in one piece of molded composite. This ensures no rust and no dents. Clearly the new Toyota Tundra for sale is made to last through whatever punishments come its way.

The new Toyota Tundra provides plenty of tools to make work tasks easier. The transmission can adjust shift points to assist with uphill and downhill travel as well as pulling or hauling a load.

Four-wheel drive models may be upgraded with the TRD Off-Road Package. This adds much more equipment for trail riding. If you want to know more about off-road trim levels or tow ratings, check out this extended review.

Interior

With numerous trims and special packages, the Toyota Tundra continues to evolve as one of the most thoughtfully designed full size trucks in the marketplace. This year the cabin received an update that included numerous comforts and conveniences for the daily driver.

Inside you’ll find that things are softer, whether it’s the doors, armrests, or dash pads. Even the instrument panel receives a soft-touch treatment. Into this mix, the Tundra designers made sure ot add organizational assets. These include special under-seat compartments in the back row bench. These have adjustable partitions to allow you to use all the space at once or divide it into sections.

Living here in Arizona, we often find out focus is on how the light duty truck can help us through the hot, hot summers. As such, we’d like to note that this new truck offers some things you’d expect like dual-zone automatic temperature controls and ventilated front seats. It also offers some things you don’t expect like rear air vents and window shades.

Other favorite features include the power rear-window with a remote switch to allow the driver to claim the breeze on one of our wonderfully cool winter days. Likewise there’s a panoramic roof that lets you claim more breezes or just enjoy looking up for a new perspective.

If you are ready to trade up to a new full size truck, we recommend our competitive financing. You can get pre approved with Earnhardt, your Phoenix AZ Toyota dealer.

Technology

For the 2026 model year, the new Toyota Tundra for sale receives its biggest touchscreen ever. At 14 inches, this display looks and is more advanced in every way. The graphics have been sharpened, and the interface has been quickened. What’s more, the voice system allows you to just ask for help on a wide menu of subjects. This includes asking for directions, telling the system to turn up the air conditioning, or go to a particular song in a particular app.

Even if you don’t step up to the bigger screen, the regular touchscreen is big enough at 8 inches. You can count on Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to assist you with mirroring your apps on the screen. If you need WiFi on the go, it’s easy to get a subscription to a 4G hotspot.

The standard 4.1-in driver display is useful for providing information about towing and off-roading. For the most fun and the coolest, more modern display, the new Tundra offers a 12.3-inch display with digital renderings of standard gauges.

Tundras are ready to assist with towing with top technologies. The new Trailer Backup Guide includes a Straight Path Assist to take the guesswork out of the complicated maneuvers often needed in crowded campsites or busy parking lots. You can use the panoramic view monitor for parking, but it’s also a good partner for towing. Cameras can show the cargo bed, the hitch, and more.

When you are doing maneuvers, it is helpful to actually be able to see what’s on both sides of your camper or tandem trailer. With its advanced capability, the blind spot monitor can be programmed to watch the sides of the trailer and warn you about side traffic dangers.

Safety

Often safe travel relies on stability, and the new Toyota Tundra has more tools to help with that. An adaptive variable suspension alters damping force to account for immediate differences in road quality. To the passenger, that indicates a less bouncy ride. For the driver, however, that indicates much more predictable handling even if the truck has a full cargo hold or a tandem trailer.

Even better, there’s a brand new air suspension that is made to adjust to the truck’s weight conditions. When the bed is filled up, the system will seek to keep it level. When it is pulling a load, you can adjust the height of the rear bumper for the safest tandem travel. Even when it’s in normal mode, it regulates the bed height to help with fuel efficiency. A special High setting makes it safer to go off road.

Of course, the Tundra offers the suite of driver assistance that has made this brand a favorite among SUV drivers. The systems include forward collision avoidance, pedestrian monitoring, low light adaptations, and an emergency automatic braking function. It is easier to avoid side collisions with the lane keeping system and blind spot monitor.

Now that you know more, you are invited to schedule a test drive. Whether for your work or your personal use, you’ll get answers about the new Toyota Tundra for sale at your Earnhardt Toyota dealer Phoenix AZ.
