2024 Toyota Tundra Review -- iForce Max Tundra Offers Power, Fun and Adventure
The 2024 Toyota Tundra and 2024 Toyota Tundra iForce Max are examples of light duty trucks with heavy duty outlooks. The new generation has allowed them to increase power outlay, towing capability, payload ratings, and more.
Even as the truck has gotten tougher, adventure is emphasized by the growing number of TRD models and packages. Style is front and center with the numerous top trims, including the Tundra Capstone.
In short, the Tundra lineup is trying to do a lot. Is it succeeding? Get the details in this Tundra iForce Max review.
What’s New?
The 2024 Toyota Tundra and Tundra iForce Max are offering more fun with the new model year. The Limited trim level is now offered with the Nightshade Package. For a more mysterious look, the 20-inch wheels, over fenders, grille, mirrors and badges are black or have blacked-out elements.
Off-roading is easy with the new 3-inch suspension lift kit. This TRD feature is installed at the factory, providing the customization you want while maintaining the important Toyota warranties.
Furthermore, the TRD Off-Road Package is now available on the Platinum 4x4. This makes it possible to enjoy true luxury and serious off-road capability in one Tundra package.
A new audio multimedia system adds the largest Tundra display ever. This is a 14-inch touchscreen with an advanced interface. Similar to what’s on phones, the new Hey Toyota system lets you control everything from air conditioning to turn-by-turn directions.
Exterior Colors and Tough New Build
Under the stylish exterior, there’s more aluminum to reduce weight and more targeted high-strength steel for structural rigidity. The light duty truck bed is made of sheet-molded compound to prevent dents and rust.
A multi-link rear suspension helps ensure a better ride quality and more responsive handling from this full size pickup truck. It also improves straight-line stability, towing and payload capacities. This work truck can tow 17.6 percent more and haul 11 percent more.
Exterior colors include laidback shades such as Lunar Rock or Wind Chill Pearl. Metallics include Celestial Silver, Midnight Black and Magnetic Gray. Personality colors include Blueprint, Army Green, Solar Octane, and Super Sonic Red.
The exterior color Mesquite is available only on the Tundra Limited or 1794, and the new Terra exterior color is exclusive to the TRD Pro.
Performance
New for 2024, a 10-speed Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmission with Intelligence has uphill/downhill logic and a sequential shift mode. If you are pulling a trailer, the tow-haul mode is ready to assist.
Taking the place of the previous generation’s V8, a twin-turbo V6 cranks out 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. Rear wheel drive is standard, but four-wheel drive is on the menu.
Tundra iForce Max engines utilize a twin-turbo V6, a motor generator, and hybrid components. This allows it to rank out 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. Even better, that torque rate can be achieved at 2400 rpm. This incredible engine is the perfect match for the Tundra TRD Pro and Capstone trims, but Toyota makes it available at many price points.
The motor generator supplies its power through the 10-speed automatic transmission. Hybrid components contribute to engine start-up and electric assist. At lower speeds, the electric motor does much of the work. You won’t find this advantage on the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, Nissan Titan, or other light duty trucks.
This EV driving bias spares the gasoline engine until the truck goes over 18 mph. This can be very helpful in slow traffic. Furthermore, the hybrid system uses energy regeneration to maintain the best battery charge.
Trims and Styles
You’ll recognize the trim levels, but some changes have been made to provide greater value. The SR and SR5 provide more affordable work trucks. The Limited, Platinum, 1794, TRD Pro and Capstone offer upscale cabins.
Throughout the lineup, you can see how designers focused on high contact points. There are dash pads, wrapped armrests, padded doors, a soft-touch instrument panel and more. Organization is emphasized throughout, and there are rear under-seat compartments with partitions that can be adjusted or removed.
Like a good SUV, the truck offers rear sunshades and rear air vents. A panoramic sunroof can open up the cabin. For Phoenix AZ drivers, it is especially welcome to have ventilated front seats AND ventilated back seats on the menu of the Platinum and 1794 editions..
2024 Tundra Double Cabs come with either a 6.5-foot or 8.1-foot bed. With more room on the back row, 2024 Tundra CrewMax is able to offer a whopping 41.6 inches of rear legroom. These bigger cabins are paired with a 5.5-foot or 6.5-foot bed.
Towing and Hauling
Tow ratings have increased to 12,000 pounds thanks to the new engines and the more athletic build. Maximum payload ratings increased to 1,940 pounds.
Ready to assist with trailering, the Panoramic View Monitor has many uses. It can show you the hitch, provide a view of the cargo bed, or let you see what’s happening overhead with a top-down view. A split-view shows what’s on each side of the trailer.
2024 Tundra drivers can activate special LED lights to show their tandem trailer. These are housed on the power-extending tow mirrors. An advanced Blind Spot Monitor can encompass the trailer as well as the truck.
Toyota now offers a Trailer Backup Guide. With its Straight Path Assist, you can get your large camper or boat trailer into position easily.
Special Suspensions
A new air suspension helps the rear stay level when the bed is full or when the 2024 Tundra is pulling a heavy trailer. For everyday driving, you can set it at Normal, and it will adjust itself as needed.
However, if you are off-roading or pulling a big camper, you’ll want the High setting. For loading and unloading, you can set it to Low. If you are hooking up the trailer, you can adjust the truck’s height to achieve the best hitch fit.
An Adaptive Variable Suspension brings even more refinement to handling. It can adjust damping force in real time. This gives you a ride quality that feels more like a car than a big truck. Plus it assists with hauling, towing, and stability.
If you are interested in the Tundra, why not find out about loans and leases? You can get started with a simple preapproval form from your Earnhardt Toyota dealer Phoenix AZ.
Off-Roading
To get the best off-roading Tundra,, you can either get a 4x4 model with the TRD Off-Road package or the unbeatable TRD Pro trim level. This is the first year that the Platinum can be equipped with TRD features.
To help the Tundra overcome traction problems, there’s a Multi-Terrain Select system, a TRD off-road suspension, and an electronically locking rear differential. For steep slopes, Downhill Assist Control holds the speed steady.
At slow speeds, the driver can activate Crawl Control. This regulates speed at one of five selectable settings. Drivers stay busy plotting the course and steering the truck.
Technology leads the way with the standard multi-terrain monitor. This provides you with views that you could never see on your own. You just push a button to see front, rear and side views on the truck’s main screen.
Safety Standards and Driver Aids
These days we want advanced driver assistance with any vehicle we buy. Fortunately Toyota listens. They have more standards on the Toyota Tundra than you’ll find on any rival full size truck. This includes intersection detection, pedestrian detection, forward collision watch, and a related autobrake and steering assist.
To prevent side crashes, Tundras have lane departure alerts, lane steering assistance, and a lane tracing assist. A sway warning system is important especially when you are towing or hauling.
Even adaptive cruise control is a Tundra standard. This is Dynamic Radar Cruise Control which has a full-speed range. Road Sign Assist can alert you to certain signs using a forward-facing camera and the dash display. There are many trucks and SUVs that do not have these standards on their base trim levels.
Additional Driver Assistance
Additional safety features include the available blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert. An available digital rearview mirror eliminates all the blind spots and shows the road in real time with the push of a button.
Only Toyota is offering a Parking Support Brake. This feature assists with braking if it detects an impending collision. This includes an approaching vehicle, but it also covers the truck when it’s parking or when it may encounter a large stationary object.
Parking is less of a chore with front and rear sensors. Even better, Toyota offers an autobrake to assist drivers in crowded parking areas.
Exciting New Dash Tech
Toyota Audio Multimedia has been upgraded with an all-new Human Machine Interface. This improves how it responds to touch and voice. The 8-inch touchscreen starts off right with the extra connectivity you get from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Enhanced resolution makes it easier to use the 14-inch touchscreen. Like tablets, it uses pinch and zoom. Still, Toyota retains an audio volume dial that is large and easy to grip, even if you are wearing work gloves.
The driver’s cockpit starts off with a 4.1-in digital MID screen. This can show towing functions, off-road features, navigation, and more. Driver can toggle between screen options.
A 12.3-inch TFT panel includes a digital speedometer, digital tachometer and more. Drivers can select gauges for towing, pitch and roll, powertrain performance and more. Adding a creative touch, the display can change appearance when the driver changes the drive mode.
Increased Connectivity
With a Drive Connect subscription, users have a virtual Intelligent Assistant. Through a conversational interface, users can get more out of their multimedia system.
A new navigation feature is cloud-based, allowing for Over the Air updates as needed to keep the maps current. Google provides Points of Interest that are relevant to your search.
With WiFi Connect, you can utilize 4G connectivity for up to ten devices within the perimeter of the truck. This password-connected service is helpful on remote worksites. Plus you can use WiFi for integrated streaming, accessing your subscription to Apple Music or Amazon Music.
Whether you need solid power, luxury, spaciousness or something in between, you’ve got a lot of choices with the 2024 Toyota Tundra iForce and iForce Max. Schedule a test drive at your Earnhardt Toyota dealer Phoenix AZ.
