How the Land Cruiser Challenges the Jeep Wrangler

There’s nothing like taking to the trail in the right off-roader. The Jeep Wrangler is often touted as the best. However, the Land Cruiser shows the Wrangler out of step with today’s modern possibilities. It is possible to be an extremely classy vehicle and still take to the trail.

    Classier Package

When Toyota engineers who were asked to create the reincarnation of the Land Cruiser, they knew they could aim high. They certainly hit the bulls-eye. The new model is handsome with an elevated style that rises above the more common looks of the bulky Wrangler.

You can tell just by looking at the Land Cruiser standards that it is a better buy than the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. It has many more high tech standards, helping to keep the vehicle out of harm’s way. The Toyota Safety Sense suite is much more comprehensive than what Jeep is offering.

This high-tech approach continues on Toyota's dashboard and is evident throughout its most modern amenities. While the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sahara hatch still swings out, the new Land Cruiser has a power liftgate. Where the Wrangler Sahara finally gets dual-zone automatic climate controls, the Land Cruiser has tri-zone automatic controls, and it has controls specifically for the second row passengers.

    Better Commuter

All of those extra safety devices are sure to make the Toyota Land Cruiser a more secure vehicle in day to day driving. Looking at the two brands, Toyota’s safety record is much better than the Jeep safety record. Jeep Wranglers have lagged behind in crash ratings over the years.

Furthermore, Toyota Land Cruisers have bulletproof reliability as some critics have called it. You know that these SUVs will go for years, and that they will have a minimum of problems compared to rivals.

Critics call the new LC practical and versatile, writing that this Toyota has been a daily driver for ages. Meanwhile, they point out that the Wrangler has a poor on-road ride quality. Handling is awkward on the pavement. There’s too much wind noise without the hardtop.

Looking at these two, it’s easy to see that the Land Cruiser is a better SUV for your daily commute. If you have a family, this ride quality and safety will be even more important to you.

    Curb Appeal and Capability

The Land Cruiser has a modern and exciting design, appealing to younger buyers. Lines are cleaner, and the effect is less about bulk, more about design.

Jeep Wranglers have changed over the years, but they still look chunky compared to other SUVs. There’s nothing wrong with them, but they are more of a throwback.

Ready to compete with Jeep on its own turf, Toyota leans into colorful choices to give adventure drivers some of the personality they clearly crave.

Wranglers are, of course, known for their tough build. However, the Toyota Land Cruiser has a few new tricks. It rides on a GA-F platform that Toyota built for maximized off-road handling. The improved suspension is tuned for off-road performance, providing terrific wheel articulation. Frames were stiffened to improve response. Lastly, Toyota has added an electronically disconnected front anti-roll bar mechanism.specs

    Performance and Tow Ratings

With the Land Cruiser Hybrid Max powertrain, drivers command 326 horses and 465 lb-ft. The Wrangler Sahara powertrain is a turbo four that comes up short in comparison.

2024 Jeep Wrangler Sahara drivers command only 270 horsepower, a loss of 56 horses compared to the LC. They command 295 lb-ft of torque, a loss of 175 lb-ft of torque.

Land Cruiser tow ratings and payload capacity show that it is tougher. It can carry up to 1,688 pounds and tow up to 6,000 pounds. The Wrangler Sahara is rated for 1,228 lbs of maximum payload. The tow rating is just 3,500 lbs.

One thing we really like about the new Land Cruiser is its standard trailering assistance. The trailer brake control and trailer assist are standards that any SUV driver would want. The new Trailer Merge Warning extends the blind spot system to include what you are towing. Now that’s smart.

    Conclusion

There’s still plenty to like about the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, but if you want an SUV you can drive every day and take way down the trail, the Land Cruiser is a much better choice.

Schedule a test drive and see just how much fun it is to drive these new Toyota SUVs.
