2025 Toyota Prius

This generation began in 2023, and it’s been turning heads ever since.  It was named a MotorTrend Car of the Year. For 2025, the same critics call it the best-looking version ever.

Car and Driver says its “stylish inside and out”. Recently the 2025 Toyota Prius made it onto the list of best looking cars at US News and World Report. 

Aerodynamics is at the root of the Prius design, but every element is rendered in top quality materials to achieve real curb appeal. This stylish car now has a Nightshade Edition with blacked-out elements and black-painted wheels for a stealthy look.  If you miss the fun by day, this Prius trim level has its logo in its projector lamps to add some fun by night.

There are seven available exterior colors with cool names like Supersonic Red, Guardian Gray, and Cutting Edge. You can also choose Reservoir Blue or Karashi yellow.  

As for the starting 2025 Prius price, it’s still under $30,000. US News and World Report gives this car a 9.1 out of 10 for value. It’s easy to see why when you look at the standards list.  From lightweight alloy wheels to six USB-c ports, there’s nothing missing -- inside or out.

The thoroughly modern Prius LE cockpit has an 8-inch touchscreen, a top-mount 7-inch digital gauge cluster, and an electronic parking brake. Parking safety is covered by a rearview camera and a rear cross-traffic alert. A blind spot monitoring system is part of this impressive cabin’s dash tech tools.  

All models have a one-year trial subscription to Remote Connect app. With a Wi-Fi Connect subscription, Prius drivers can access integrated streaming, including Apple Music or Amazon Music.

Every element of the Prius interior points to comfort. Supportive front seats take care of the driver and front seat passenger, even on long trips. Storage solutions are everywhere -- from the many compartments to the largest cargo hold in this hybrid car class.

Prius handling is another place where critics agree. This car is enjoyable to drive, which encouraged Car and Driver to give it a rare 10 out of 10. Motor Trend calls it “greater athleticism”. 

Truly, across the board, the Prius horsepower is the highest that this efficient hybrid vehicle has ever had. Front-wheel drive models promise 194 horsepower with their electric motor, and they make the most of it with a curb weight as low as 3097 pounds in the LE.  

All-wheel drive models bump that up to 196 horsepower-combined by adding a rear motor. They keep their weight down, too. The LE AWD weighs 3,230 pounds while the Limited AWD weighs 3,340 pounds on average.

If you are worried about the Prius MPG now that this hybrid car is speedier, you don’t need to be.  The LE earns 57 mpg in the city and 56 mpg on the highway. The XLE, Limited and Nightshade trim levels earn 52 mpg whether it’s city or highway.  The LE all-wheel drive edition earns 53 mpg city and 54 mpg highway. The other AWD editions earn 49 mpg city and 50 mpg highway.

It’s no wonder that the Prius Plug-in Hybrid is  a PC Mag Editor’s Choice. It  tops them all with 220 total horsepower.  The Prius PHEV SE can promise an EPA-estimated electric range of 45 miles, a city-highway efficiency of 52 mpg,  and an overall efficiency of 127 mpg-equivalent. Other models offer 40 miles of electric travel, 48 mpg hybrid efficiency, or 114 mpg-equivalent overall efficiency.  

With sny Prius PHEV, this means zero emissions for typical daily commutes to and from work, school or errands. An estimated range of 550 or even 600 miles means zero anxiety during  long distance travel. 

Like the regular hybrid, these plug-in hybrids use regenerative braking to recapture energy. It only takes a few hours at night to restore the electric power to full capability.

Like many Prius models before it, the 2025 Toyota Prius has earned a five-star rating from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.  The many tech tools of Toyota Safety Sense help drivers avoid common crash scenarios. 

For less driver stress, there’s Full-speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist and Proactive Driving Assist. To avoid problems, there’s a pre-collision system that watches for stopping traffic, pedestrians and cyclists. It may apply an emergency autobrake if the stopping distance is becoming dangerous. 

A lane departure alert and steering assist help you stay in the lane lines. Other standards include road sign assist and automatic high beams.  Toyota also includes tools for parents, such as Safe Exit Alert and Rear Seat Reminder.

XLE and higher trims have front and rear parking sensors that can trigger an autobrake. The available Panoramic View Monitor includes a 360-degree overhead view when driving very slowly and a curb view in reverse.

Another big plus for this model year, the Prius cargo hold measures as much as 23.8 cubic feet. Some versions maintain a solid 20.3 cubic feet. Either way, Prius cargo space is better than the trunks found in hybrid sedans such as the 2025 Hyundai Elantra or the 2025 Honda Civic. 

With all of this cargo space and ample passenger room, this commuter car is a good family car as well.  You’ll find plenty of room for car seats and other gear for kids.

The Prius XLE rolls on larger 19-inch alloy wheels and assists the driver with rain-sensing wipers. In the cabin, SofTex upholstery covers the seats in softness.  The cockpit gains a wireless charger, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, Homelink, a split-fold 2nd-row seat, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. Automatic braking assists the rear parking sensors.

The Nightshade pairs its interesting blacked-out exterior with a special interior.  A SofTex black and a contrasting gray surround you with stylish softness.

Limited models have the top cockpit amenities, including the largest infotainment display, a heated steering wheel and -- that Phoenix AZ favorite -- ventilated front seats. A fixed glass roof, the Toyota digital key, and a power hatchback help round out this trim level’s many convenience and comfort features.
