7 Major Reasons to Choose 2023 Crown vs Acura TLX

The 2023 Acura TLX is challenged by the 2023 Crown. It manages to hit all of the important benchmarks of a luxury ride and does the TLX one better with money-saving fuel efficiency. Here’s what you should know before making an automotive investment.

  1. Executive Styling

The Crown offers a premium feel that’s way above its pricetag. The exterior has a bold design unique in its class. A flowing silhouette hints at a sports car while sculpted lines give it the gravitas of an executive sedan. An available bi-tone color scheme adds to its upscale appeal.

With 5.8 inches of ground clearance, it sits higher than a regular sedan. This gives it an elevated seating position more like an SUV. The Acura TLX has a maximum ground clearance of 5.4 inches.

Getting in and out of the Crown was a big consideration when it was designed. That’s why drivers will find entry and exit easier than in the TLX or similarly sized executive sedans.

Even the wheels are bigger. The TLX has standard 18-inch wheels. Crown wheels are 19 inches or 21 inches. Platinum trim wheels wear special black accents.

  2. Serious Spaciousness

The 2023 Crown is seriously bigger than the Acura. It has an inch more headroom in both the front and rear rows. Even better, it has an extra 4 inches of rear legroom. This is critical to the comfort of backseat passengers.

Complementing the Crown’s bigger cabin, it has a bigger trunk. Owners will appreciate significantly more trunk space. At 15.2 cubic feet, the Crown’s trunk is one of the largest ones in the midsize sedan segment. It is two cubic feet bigger than the trunk on the Acura TLX.

  3. Ride Quality

A limo-like ride quality is one reason that shoppers want a luxury car. Crown sedans were built from the ground up to ensure the best ride quality.

The Crown rides on a specially designed chassis. It rises some four inches above the Camry. This ensures remarkable road visibility for the driver. The build allows for easier entry and exit, too.

Remarkable ride quality comes from the advanced suspension and chassis. With plenty of noise insulation, it’s quiet too. Platinum models add an adaptive suspension for even better handling and ride quality.

  1. Standard All Wheel Drive

Every Crown has all-wheel drive. As a hybrid, this is a standard electronic system. It utilizes its dual motors to move torque. This can split torque better than a traditional AWD system.

Torque can move from 100:0 ratio, favoring front wheel drive, to 20:80 ratio, favoring rear wheel drive. With this much ability, it can handle any weather or road condition.

The Acura sedan has front wheel drive. All wheel drive is standard with the A-Spec package. This Acura TLX price has an MSRP of $48,800.

  2. Performance and Efficiency

The Acura’s engine generates 272 horsepower. Although it’s a turbo, it only earns 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway for a combined 25 mpg. With all-wheel drive, that drops to 21/29 mpg. Stepping up to the 355-horsepower V6, it earns only 19/25 mpg city/highway.

Both of the Crown models have dual motors for the most effective all-wheel drive. The standard Hybrid generates 236 horsepower. It earns 42 mpg city and 41 mpg on the highway. If you want top capability, the Hybrid Max generates 340 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. It earns 32 mpg on the highway. The combined rate is 30 mpg.

  1. Luxurious Packaging

Having a new 2023 design, the Crown is definitely more contemporary than the TLX which was last redesigned in 2021. For starters, the Crown has dual power chairs up front. Seats are covered in an attractive combination of woven fabric and faux leather. Acuras also have faux leather seats on the base edition.

Both the TLX and Crown let you step up to leather upholstery. However, the Crown Limited is less expensive and comes with the biggest value package. The cabin is opulent with its genuine leather seats, panoramic sunroof and 11-speaker JBL audio system.

  2. Value Packaging

Not only does the 2023 Crown achieve the same level of luxury as the TLX, but it provides a better value. This is most obvious with infotainment.

The Crown dash has two 12.3 inch displays. The large touchscreen is two inches larger than the Acura screen, which is not an actual touchscreen. It works with a touchpad controller that is considered quite difficult to use.

Furthermore, the full-size digital instrument panel is exclusive to the Crown. TLX sedans only have a 7-inch digital screen behind the steering wheel. So, that’s almost 25 inches on the Crown versus 17 inches on the Acura.

In another example, the two have a long list of contemporary driver assistance. However, the Crown price includes two essential aids that cost more on the Acura. To get the blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert on the Acura, you choose the Tech package with an MSRP of $43,850.

Conclusion

The 2023 Toyota Crown has as much luxury to offer as the Acura TLX. It just does it with a hybrid powertrain and a better value package.
